- Sources: LWN review, HN submission
- Summary: HTML export now renders mathematics as MathML, which current browsers interpret without MathJax and without falling back to images, and LWN reports the HTML and PDF renderings of the same source as essentially identical. The new bundle output builds a linked set of HTML and PDF files from one source with working links between them, which covers publishing a slide deck and a preprint together or generating a small site. Both remain experimental and need the
--features flag, invoked as --features html and --features html, bundle --format bundle. The release also adds variable-font axis control, multiple bibliographies with per-section numbering, and targeting several PDF standards at once, where the compiler refuses incompatible pairs such as PDF 1.7 with PDF/A-1b and enforces requirements such as the document title that PDF/UA-1 needs. Version 0.15 shipped in June 2026 and the LWN review is dated 2026-09-09, so both predate this page. Two governance facts sit with the tool: the project rejects any contribution generated by an LLM, and its maintainers state Typst is a company as well as an open-source project and that company needs inform project direction. - Why it matters: Mathematics survives HTML export without a JavaScript renderer, while Typst remains pre-1.0 and LWN notes journals requiring source submissions still do not accept it.
- Follow-up: Track whether HTML export and bundle output leave experimental status behind the
--features flag.
