- Summary: LG Electronics USA said on 2026-07-21 it will suspend apps in its webOS store that contain residential-proxy SDKs, which turn smart TVs into always-on proxy nodes routing third-party traffic through users' connections. Developers had embedded the SDKs in games, screensavers, and utilities in exchange for payment from proxy providers such as Bright Data, in some cases offering users a choice between viewing ads or acting as a proxy node. LG said its review is underway and that offending apps will be suspended if the option is not removed.
- Why it matters: Residential-proxy SDKs on consumer devices launder abusive traffic and expose owners to liability, and a platform-level ban is a rare enforcement point against the supply.
